“Voices of Silence” Art Sales Exhibition

Maisa Kela’s Art Exhibition at the Silent People’s Niittytupa, June 5-September 21, 2025
Open daily from 10 am to 5 pm

“The inspiration for this exhibition and my source of fascination are nature and the poems of Eino Leino, a poet born in the Kainuu region.”

A landscape is like a poem—I don’t aim to depict its details precisely but rather the mood it evokes. Nature offers moments that make us pause: a summer night, autumn’s colors, the sparkle of a lake, a spring river, beautiful trees and plants, bogs, and hills. These are the moments Eino Leino describes through words. Painting allows me to continue where words fall silent.

My roots are in Kainuu, in Suomussalmi. My birthplace, Ruhtinansalmi, remains important to me, and I spend several holidays there every year. My soul rests in its silence, and Lake Kianta is deeply embedded in my spirit.

I’ve worked as a psychologist and psychotherapist mainly in the Helsinki metropolitan area, where I still live.

I began studying art about 20 years ago and have since painted actively using various techniques. Nowadays, I mostly create watercolors and some pastel works. The delicacy and spontaneity of watercolor painting captivate me.

Art has been a passion of mine since childhood, and my high school art teacher strongly encouraged me to pursue an artistic career. Life, however, led me in a different direction, and helping people became my main profession. Art and psychology complement each other—creativity, seeing anew, and discovering are central to both fields.

I’ve held several exhibitions, both solo and as part of group shows. My solo exhibitions have taken place in Helsinki, Espoo, Kerava, and here at the Niittytupa of the Silent People in 2022.

Group exhibitions I’ve participated in include:
France (2016), Poland (2018), Russia – St. Petersburg (2017), Italy (2020), Spain (2020), Estonia (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023)
Finnish Watercolor Society Annual Exhibitions: 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022
Gallery Akvart group exhibitions annually, most recently in 2024.

Painting is my passion—a way of life, a way to connect with myself and others. One is never finished. There is always something new and inspiring. A way to stay alive!

What are these scents around me?
What is this silence?
What is the peace in my heart—
So strange, so vast, so new?
